It’s birthday month in our house right now. 3/5ths of my family have birthdays between February 8th and 28th. And two of them this year are milestone birthdays. So between 3 birthday celebrations, 3 birthday parties, and throwing in Valentine’s Day, this span of 20 days is a bit of a sprint for me. Why am I telling you this? Because it means that my end caps and hydration are super important when my life is more hectic than usual.
So how is it going with your morning and bedtime routines, and have you been staying hydrated? These items don’t seem important when you don’t really have them as part of your regular M.O., but once you do, you see the true power of what they are doing for you.
Don’t worry if you haven’t quite got these things going yet. New routines take time. The key is awareness and then setting intentions. Tell those intentions to your partner, friend, pet, or email them to me! Stating your intentions out loud makes them more likely to happen.
Today we are going to talk more about intentions and setting yourself up for success. It’s important to have a foundation of planning and prepping before you start trying to tweak how you eat, schedule your day, shift your self-talk, etc.
Healthy, Balanced Life Tip #1: Be Sunday Savvy
Why I do this: Life is hectic. If I don’t set intentions and make a plan, I find that I keep not doing things that I want to do, because they don’t rank as high in the priority list as the needs do. And why do they not happen? Because I will waste time on something silly if I don’t have a clear plan for what I want most out of my week.
So, the best way to make your week what you want, is to be what I call Sunday Savvy. Set aside 10 minutes (maybe less) on Sundays, get out a piece of paper and answer these questions. Keep them where you will see it throughout the week and be accountable to yourself.
Connect – Who will I reach out to this week? List 2-3 people and how (phone, text, email, get together).
Focus – What 1-3 items will you prioritize this week? Can be business or personal.
Personal Development – What I read/listen to this week to create a deeper awareness of myself?
Self-Care – How will I nurture myself this week? List 3.
Fun – What will you do for fun this week, or plan for a future date?
Foodie – Plan 2 recipes for the week, set a shop date and a prep date. Then reheat when you want it!
The key: Don’t make this a to-do list that you berate yourself for not completing. These are intentions to make your life more fulfilled, not make sure the laundry gets done and the dog gets fed. And it’s not something that you have to check off every last item to have had a good week. It’s meant to be a way for you to intentionally put abundance in your daily life.
Healthy, Balanced Life Tip #2: Reflect and Offer Gratitude
Why I do this: Confession first. I will be honest, and say I don’t do this tip enough. But when I do, my world is so much calmer and fun! It is so important to take time for reflection in your life, honor your progress (no matter how big or small), and be gracious with yourself. Gratitude has a powerful impact on your psyche, stress levels, and feelings of self-worth.
We have spent the past weeks incorporating doable aspects of a healthy, balanced life into your daily and weekly habits. I could give a second tip this week, but it’s important to make gradual changes in life, not too many, too rapidly. You’re working on your morning and night routines and hydration. Now you can start being Sunday Savvy.
So, take some time today and honor you, where you are, and where you have come from. Offer gratitude to yourself. You can simply say a few things to yourself, or incorporate it with some gentle movement. I like to do this with sun salutations. With each one I think of what I am grateful for about myself, my family, my business, friends, and the world around me.
You can also share those reflections with me! I’d love to hear how you are doing.
